Dental implants

And when it's time for dental implants...

Sometimes it is too late for a conservative treatment, and the tooth needs to be extracted. It might also be the case that the patient lost it as a result of a disease, injury or for other health reasons. Then the best solution is a dental implant.

Implantology is a field that has revolutionized dentistry. Until recently, when a tooth was lost, it was common to attach dental bridges. It was preceded by grinding down adjacent, often healthy teeth. If there was more tooth loss, removable dentures were the standard. Now it is the implants that enable full reconstruction of lost teeth, without disturbing the adjacent teeth. For an outside observer, such reconstruction is impossible to distinguish from natural teeth. And at the same time, it is the most comfortable, durable and aesthetic solution.

What is a dental implant? It is a small, most often titanium or zirconium screw embedded in the upper or lower jawbone. It acts as the tooth root and provides the basis for rebuilding the crown. Implants can be used to fill in individual missing tooth or as pillars for larger reconstructions.

When are implants the best solution?

    • one missing tooth
    • multiple missing teeth
    • toothlessness
    • damaged tooth that cannot be treated

The dental implant surgical procedure itself is minimally invasive, takes up to several minutes and is completely safe. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, so the patients do not feel any discomfort. It is followed by a healing period of several weeks, during which the implant merges with the bone. The next stages are putting on the healing screw, screwing in the connector, i.e. an element imitating a tooth, and taking an impression (we use digital impressions in our clinic) to make a crown. Approximately 2 weeks after scanning or taking an impression of a fully integrated implant, the crown is attached to the implant.

At the Kownacki-Dent Dental Centre, we work with top quality materials and equipment based on the latest technologies. In implantology and surgery, we use the Navident, a dynamic navigation systemwhich supports the surgeon's work during the implant placement and allows for incredible precision, even up to tenths of a millimetre compared to the design, making the procedure less invasive for the patient. Customized subperiosteal implants are a solution for people with extreme atrophy of the upper or lower jawbone who would like to recover lost teeth. The procedure of rebuilding the alveolar bonewhich disappeared as a result of tooth loss can also help recover lost teeth.

In our clinic, all surgical procedures preceding implant placement are performed by Patryk Kownacki, MD, an internationally recognized specialist in dental surgery.
